ASEE-ELD: nominations sought

Nominations are being sought for the positions of Secretary/Treasurer and Director for the Engineering Libraries Division of ASEE. You may nominate yourself, or someone else.

Election to the ELD Secretary/Treasurer is a four-year job assignment, with the workload heaviest during the program chair year. The person is Secretary/Treasurer for the first year (leading up to and including 2008, Pittsburgh), program chair for the 2nd year (2009, Austin, Texas), division chair for the 3rd year (2010, Louisville, Kentucky), and then chair of the nominations committee for the 4th year (2011 Vancouver, Canada).

The Director serves a 2-year term. Not to be confused with the division chair, the director is an additional member of the executive committee who organizes the banquet for 2008 in Pittsburgh and helps organize (with the membership chair) the ELD Welcome Reception for the 2009 conference in Austin.

ASEE-ELD: volunteering opportunity

The Extended Executive Committee of the Engineering Libraries Division of ASEE is looking for members who would be interested in helping organize an Information Literacy Special Interest Group. A webpage would be created containing teaching objects, handouts, tutorials and the like that members are interested in sharing with colleagues.

If interested, email Kate Thomes with a brief description of what you would envision in a Special Interest Group devoted to information literacy and what you would bring to the position.

ASEE-ELD election in progress

The election for the new board members of the Engineering Libraries Division of ASEE started today. You can vote by electronic ballot (also accessible at the ELD home page. You need your membership number (check your membership card or the label on your copy of PRISM. Voting will conclude on March 24.

ASEE Meriam/Wiley Distinguished Author Award

This is a award offered by ASEE, not ASEE’s Engineering Libraries Division, but I’m sure librarians could have ideas for nominations, due on January 15.

The Meriam/Wiley Distinguished Author Award wants to recognize published “work that contributes to the advancement of technical and professional competence at the undergraduate or graduate level.”

ASEE-ELD volunteering opportunities

The Engineering Libraries Division of ASEE is looking for nominations/volunteers for two elected positions and two appointed positions:

Secretary/Treasurer (elected)
Director (elected)
Membership Committee Chair (appointed)
Development Committee Coordinator (appointed)

For more information of the responsabilities, check the ELD bylaws. If you are interested in one of the appointed positions, email Jill Powell at jhp1@cornell.edu by February 3, 2006. State why you are interested and include a resume (or summary of your background). If you are interested in one of the elected positions, email Andy Shimp. I don’t know the deadline for this but since the slate of candidates will be announced by the Nominating Committee no later than February 17, 2006, my guess is that it’s soon enough.
