As part of a team in the Engineering and Science Library, the incumbent provides reference and research services; participates in the provision of orientation and teaching programs; is responsible for faculty liaison and collection development in assigned subject areas. The librarian consults and collaborates with other service providers in the Library, and promotes the vision of a team-based learning organization.

The Library’s current staff complement of 5 librarians and 8.5 FTE library technicians strives to provide a welcoming and responsive environment for all our users.

The Faculty of Applied Science’s Integrated Learning initiative seeks to provide more active teaching and learning experiences, strengthen relationships among departments, and provide more interdisciplinary, open-ended, real-world experiences in order to prepare their graduates for the increasingly rigorous expectations of engineering practice. The Library is engaged in this initiative and has a key role to play.

Queen’s University Library comprises five major libraries in well-equipped facilities. It serves a user community of approximately 18,000 students and 800 faculty with research collections exceeding 7 million items, more than 16,000 electronic journals and 400 databases; a staff of 160; and a budget exceeding $17 million. The Library has adopted a team-based organization based on the goals of the learning organization to encourage innovation and flexibility in meeting the service needs of the Library’s users. The Library is a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL).

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Librarians are members of the Faculty Association and terms and conditions of work are governed by the collective agreement between the Association and the University, which is posted at http://www.qufa.ca/. It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the rank of Assistant Librarian (minimum salary for an Assistant Librarian is $50,304.), but salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a continuing track appointment, available immediately.
